Education

Junior Interdisciplinary Studies major specializing in middle level English/Language Arts education at Texas A&M University-Commerce, 3.83 GPA, Dean's List student every semester and President's List student Fall 2009 and Spring 2010

Experience

I have helped many students at various levels of education with primarily improving their English writing skills. Although most of these students have been tutored at an informal level, I am confident in my abilities to aid those in need so that they succeed to the best of their abilities. TAKS: Writing Subscore - 3, Math - 2224, English/Language Arts - 2321 I want to be a tutor because I am passionate about aiding the educational development process within individuals. I care deeply about instilling in each individual a positive attitude about their abilities as a student and as a person in general. In the process of being a tutor I will affect a person's life in a positive and successful way, and also enable myself to become a better teacher once I start my career. I also believe that each student deserves to enjoy their education and actually want to learn more in the classroom instead of having a negative outlook. Therefore, by being a tutor I plan to incorporate a fun yet structured curriculum for my students that will elevate their thinking process and solidify a strong foundation for success. I am a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honors Society and of Alpha Phi Fraternity. I am an awarded recipient of the Top 23 Freshman Award from Stephen F. Austin State University. As mentioned before I have made the Dean's List (3.5 GPA or higher) every semester that I have been in college with the exception of making the President's List (4.0 GPA) the past two semesters.

Hobbies

I am an active member of my church and have taught first grade Sunday school for two consecutive years. I also was part of a church group, C.R.E.W., for 6 years that mentored and inspired children of all ages. I also lead praise worship and several small groups during Vacation Bible School for one summer. My main hobby is to read as many books as possible during my spare time. I absolutely love literature and I believe this is why I have always been an excellent student in English/Language Arts. My peers have often asked me to revise and comment on their papers and I always am pleased to lend a helping hand. I actually enjoy reading other people's work and helping them become better writers! Another hobby of mine is that of music. I have played piano for over a decade (14 years) and also played clarinet during middle and high school. I thoroughly enjoy music and believe it to be one of life's greatest past times and stress reliefs.
